The History of Kidz 4 Kidz Community Theatre Company

Kidz 4 Kidz was set up in 2001 by a mother and performing arts teacher, local to the Preston, Lancashire area.

It was started in order to offer a community company for the young people of the local area to attend, as local youth clubs were closing at the time, and the papers were reporting an increase in young people hanging around the streets. As the person who started it was a mother of two and a performing arts teacher, a performance based community group for children seemed the obvious area to start.

Kidz 4 Kidz is not a business, the many people who have helped with choreography, producing shows, technical, costumes, chaperoning, administration & fundraising, over the years, are all volunteers.

As the club is a not-for-profit community group, the weekly subs pay for the costs of weekly rehearsals (hall rental, insurance, administration) and the profit from ticket sales goes to a local children's charity or child in need. Kidz 4 Kidz have given thousands to various children's charities and also bought much needed home equipment for local children with disabilities.

Kidz 4 Kidz has a good relationship with local Councillors and with local theatres - any profits from each show go to a nominated cause.

Over the years Kidz 4 Kidz has grown, there have been over 30 volunteers involved in producing shows and over 1,000cast members since 2001.

Kidz 4 Kidz won the Lancashire Evening Post's 'Heart of the Community' competition and were finalists in Rock FMs 'Time to Shine' Awards.

Many of the teenagers who help out have been recognised for their commitment, with their input at Kidz 4 Kidz being noted on CVs and admired by prospective employers and some using evidence of their input at the group for Duke of Edinburgh Awards and relevant GCSE links.

Two of our teenage volunteers have won 'The Pride of the North West' Award for 'Young Inspirational Person'.

Kidz 4 Kidz is simply about community, the cast feeling valued, having fun, and doing something they enjoy in order help those less fortunate than themselves.
